Peter Hedrich (born 3 April 1993 in Saarlouis) is a German Jazz musician (trombone).

Early in his childhood, Hedrich already came into contact with music through his parents and at the age of six, he started playing the trombone. Initially, he was trained in the classical trombone; only after finishing his Abitur (comparable to A levels) at Robert-Schuman-Gymnasium in 2011 did he commit himself to Jazz. From 2007 to 2016, he went through all the major junior orchestras, including the State’s Student Bigband, also known as “Jazztrain”, the Youth Jazz Orchestra of the Saar region and the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of the federal state Saarland and even the National Jazz Orchestra, also known as BuJazzO, which he was a member of from 2014 to 2016.

Following his school education, he initially studied law at the University of Saarland before starting to study Jazz and Modern Music at the University of Music Saar under the tutelage of Philipp Schug, Adi Becker and Simon Seidel (classical trombone). Aside from his studies, he broadened his musical education through private lessons by wellknown trombonists such as Jiggs Whigham, Andy Hunter, Ludwig Nuss, Ansgar Striepens and Hansjörg Fink. With his own band – the Peter Hedrich Quintet – he published his debut album New Hope in 2018, which is a reflection of Jiggs Whigham’s album Hope. This CD, which included collaborations with Jiggs as a guest musician, was nominated for the Quarterly Critic’s Choice of the German Record Critics’ Award.

Since 2017, Hedrich has been principal and solo trombonist of the Bigband of the police of the federal state of Saarland. Furthermore, he is a member of the Silent Explosion Orchestra, lead by drummer Kevin Naßhan, and the Abstrakt Orchester. Between 2016 and 2018, he toured Europe with the musicals The Addams Family and Monty Python’s Spamalot. In Addition, he worked with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the WDR Big Band, Stefan Gwildis, the Söhne Mannheims, Florian Ross, Pe Werner, Veronika Morscher, Felix Hauptmann, the In.Zeit Ensemble, Wollie Kaiser, Stefan Scheib, Ernie Hammes, the Orchestra of the State theatre of Saarland, Ralf Hesse and others.

Since 2020, he has been an endorser and artist for the brand XO Brass and has been playing their trombones exclusively.

Hedrich’s musical activity also includes teaching. He was a teacher at the music schools of the districts St. Wendel and Saarlouis and taught children as well as adults on various levels throughout the federal state of Saarland. Also, he regularly functions as an instructor for the Association of Music Clubs in the Saarland state, the Youth Jazz Orchestra of the Saar region and other orchestras
